Microsoft Remote Desktop becomes Windows App
Many of us use Microsoft Remote Desktop to connect from home to computers at Informatics, so that we can use DICE Linux or Windows. (If you don’t do that yet, but you would like to, see our remote desktop service help pages.)
If you’ve fired up Microsoft Remote Desktop recently, you may have seen a message from Microsoft, telling you that it is to be replaced. The replacement will be called Windows App.
We’ve tried a preview version of Windows App, and despite the name, you can still use it to connect to DICE, as well as to Windows. In fact, the software seems pretty much the same to us, just with a new name and new graphics.
The change will happen in “the fall”, according to Microsoft. When it does, we’ll update our remote desktop service help pages.
Until then, here’s Microsoft’s blog post about the change.
