Various services run by the Informatics Research and Teaching Unit will be affected by the Appleton Tower power down of Saturday 29th June 2024. The complete list of services is listed below. Although the power down only affects the Saturday, all services below will be unavailable until Monday 1st July.

PIP

The Personal Information Processor (PIP), pip.inf.ed.ac.uk, will be unavailable all weekend.

Request Tracker

The computing support ticketing system (RT) and financial admin ticketing system (RTFINADMIN) will be unavailable all weekend. Tickets can still be submitted, but they will be queued and not processed until Monday.

DPMT

The Degree Project Management Tool (DPMT) will be unavailable all weekend.

GPU Compute Clusters

Research/Teaching Cluster

The following GPU compute nodes in the Research/teaching cluster will be unavailable over the weekend.

In addition the gluster home directory servers will be unavailable, you can check if your home directory will be affected by running

df -k |grep  <username>

if you see something like this

reekiestorage.inf.ed.ac.uk:pgr-home/... 64424474504 62544247396 1880227108  98% /home/...

then your home directory will be unavailable over the weekend from 10pm on Friday. If this will seriously impact on your usage then submit a ticket and we may be able to move your home directory. Prior to the shutdown we will be moving a number of systems including the head node greekie to reduce the impact on the cluster.

CDT Cluster

This service be unavailable at the weekend from around 10pm Friday until Monday morning

ILCC Cluster

This service be unavailable at the weekend from around 10pm Friday until Monday morning

Other Services

These services will also be unavailable at the weekend.
