We’ve turned off some of the machines which normally form part of the DICE Beowulf and Hadoop clusters. At the moment the Forum’s server room is running with only one of its UPSes rather than the normal two, so we’ve cut our electricity consumption slightly until we get the second UPS back. One obvious target was the Beowulf servers: we’ve turned a quarter of them off. Since the Beowulf machines comprise most of the Hadoop cluster, that’s also currently a little diminished. Both should be back to normal fairly soon. The Hadoop cluster is currently fairly quiet anyway, though I expect it to get busier as summer approaches and Extreme Computing students concentrate on their project work.
