Day 2: Love Actually
Love Actually is a 2003 British film that follows 10 different stories that take place over the holiday period and are all interlinked with characters crossing over plots and interacting. Each story highlights a different aspect of love from new romances to the trials of long-lived marriages. While not every aspect has aged wonderfully, it is heartfelt and romantic with a good dose of early 2000’s cheese, and a wonderful holiday message of love being all around if you just look.
Today’s tradition: 3 Kings Day, Spain, Italy, Latin America
Many Christian and Catholic communities observe the January holiday called Three Kings Day. Also referred to as Epiphany, the holiday celebrated in Spain, Europe, and Latin America highlights the baby Jesus. Celebrations often include food, gifts, and pastries to remember the presence of the Three Wise Men and to recall the baptism of Jesus Christ. Held on January 6 of every year, this winter festival is a time for people to gather and commemorate the three visitors and reflect on how the revelation of Christ influenced religious history.
