*The Library now has access to the NAACP Papers Collections until 31st July 2024 as part of ProQuest Access 350.*

Thanks to a request from a student in History, the Library currently has trial access to The NAACP Papers Collections 1-6, part of ProQuest History Vault. These collections are the digitised archives of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The archive covers the period 1909-1972.

You can access the database via the E-resources trials page. Access is available both on and off-campus.

Trial access ends 15th February 2017.

The Library currently has trial access to the fantastic primary source database China, America and the Pacific: Trade & Cultural Exchange from Adam Matthew Digital. The database allows you to explore the cultural and trading relationships that emerged between America, China and the Pacific region between the 18th and early 20th centuries.

You can access the database via the E-resources trials page. Access is available both on and off-campus.

*The Library now has permanent access to Women's Magazine Archive I and II, News, Policy and Politics Magazine Archive and Historic Literary Criticism (via ProQuest One Literature). We also have access to all British Periodicals collections until 31st December 2021 via ProQuest Access 350.*

The Library currently has trial access to several fantastic databases from ProQuest and I'm happy to let you know our access to these databases has recently been extended until the end of December 2016.

The databases included are:

  • Women’s Magazine Archive I and II
  • British Periodicals III and IV
  • Los Angeles Times Historical Archive, 1881-1992
  • News, Policy and Politics Magazine Archive

You can access this online archive via the E-resources trials page. You must register with the site to get access. Access is available on-campus or off-campus if using VPN.

On the HCA Librarian blog I have highlighted new resources or material that have been purchased for the Library's collections from requests from students or staff in the School of History, Classics and Archaeology.

However, new resources purchased from requests from other schools in the College of Humanities & Social Sciences and beyond may also be of interest to HCA students and staff. I generally tweet about these but I thought I'd put a quick post together just to highlight some of these resources.

This is the first in an occasional series highlighting some of the online resources available at the Library that will be of interest to students and staff in History, Classics and Archaeology.

The Digital National Security Archive (DNSA) from ProQuest gives you access to a vast collection of important declassified U.S. government documents. This provides valuable primary source material central to U.S. foreign and military policy since 1945 and helps advance research in history, politics and international relations.

IFWithin DNSA are collections that cover U.S. policy towards critical world events, including their military, intelligence, diplomatic and human rights dimensions. Each collection is overseen by a subject expert and they allow researchers to directly access the original documents that shaped responses to these critical world events.

With the recent purchase of the collections U.S. Policy in the Vietnam War, Part I and II the Library now has access to 7 collections via DNSA.
[As of August 2017 4 new collections have now been added.]
