The GENEXIT Study
WHY DO MILLENNIALS AND GEN Z LEAVE NURSING, A QUALITATIVE STUDY
This study is a PhD research project that is seeking to understand the factors that cause individuals from Millennial/Generation Y (born 1981-96) and Generation Z (born 1997-2012) to leave the nursing (RN) profession, in the UK.
IMPORTANTANCE OF THIS STUDY
Approximately 20% of nurses leaving the profession from the youngest generations of working adults. It is important to understand the factors causing Gen Y and Z to leave the nursing profession, to inform future recruitment and retention practice of health organisations.
WHO IS THE RESEARCHER
The principal researcher is Kirsty Douglas, who is currently undertaking a PhD in Nursing Studies at The University of Edinburgh, Scotland. Kirsty holds a MA in Philosophy, BN in Adult Nursing, and BSc in Medical Genetics.
The joint supervisors for this project are Dr Sarah Rhynas (Nursing Studies) and Professor Michael Cholbi (Philosophy).
