Trial access: Global commodities

The Library has a number of e-resources trials running at the moment and this includes trial access to the fascinating primary source database Global Commodities: Trade Exploration & Cultural Exchange from Adam Matthew Digital. Using a range of visual, manuscript and printed materials sourced from libraries, companies and trade organisations worldwide this database allows you to explore the history of fifteen major commodities and to examine the ways that these have changed the world.

Trial access: Foreign Office Files for India, Pakistan and Afghanistan

The Library has been given trial access to Foreign Office Files for India, Pakistan and Afghanistan, 1947-1980 from Archives Direct. This is an interesting collection of files from the Foreign Office (later the Foreign and Commonwealth Office) and Dominions Office focusing on the political and social history of India, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Trial access: China, America and the Pacific

The Library currently has trial access to the fantastic primary source database China, America and the Pacific: Trade & Cultural Exchange from Adam Matthew Digital. The database allows you to explore the cultural and trading relationships that emerged between America, China and the Pacific region between the 18th and early 20th centuries.

I’m pleased to let you know that we currently have trial access to two online primary source collections from Archives Unbound that may be of particular interest to those looking at the Second World War and related subjects. The two collections are The Jewish Question: Records from the Berlin Document Centre and Nazism in Poland: The diary of Governor-General Hans Fran.

Spotlight on Archives Unbound

This is the second in a (very) occasional series highlighting some of the online resources available at the Library that will be of interest to students and staff in History, Classics and Archaeology.

Archives Unbound from Gale Cengage provides access to topically-focused digital collections of historical documents. This is a vast array of valuable primary source material covering a broad range of topics from the Middle Ages onwards and the material supports the research and study needs of students and scholars. Most of collections are chosen for Archives Unbound based on requests from scholars, archivists, and students.

ProQuest e-resources trials extended!

*The Library now has permanent access to Women’s Magazine Archive I and II, News, Policy and Politics Magazine Archive and Historic Literary Criticism (via ProQuest One Literature). We also have access to all British Periodicals collections until 31st December 2021 via ProQuest Access 350.*

The Library currently has trial access to several fantastic databases from ProQuest and I’m happy to let you know our access to these databases has recently been extended until the end of December 2016.

The databases included are:

  • Women’s Magazine Archive I and II
  • British Periodicals III and IV
  • Los Angeles Times Historical Archive, 1881-1992
  • News, Policy and Politics Magazine Archive
  • Luthers Werke
  • Historic Literary Criticism.

You can access all of these trial databases via the E-resources trials page. Access is available both on and off-campus.

*The Library now subscribes to Archives Unbound giving access to all collections within this. The Library has also subsequently purchased British Library Newspapers Part V.*

The Library currently has trial access to two databases from Gale Cengage, British Newspapers Part V and Post-War Europe: Refugees, Exile and Resettlement, 1945-1950.

You can access both of these online archives via the E-resources trials page. Access is available both on and off-campus.

New to the Library: Papers of Neville Chamberlain

I’m pleased to let you know that the Library has recently purchased the Papers of Neville Chamberlain, an online resource containing political papers documenting Chamberlain’s policies as Chancellor of the Exchequer and Prime Minister and highlighting his personal correspondence with his family.

You can access the Papers of Neville Chamberlain via the Databases A-Z list. This collection is made available to us via Archives Unbound from Gale Cengage.
