Explore the Geology with LUNA

LUNA3

Last week we were very excited to see a new LUNA collection go live- ‘Geology & Geologists’. This brings together images from the CRC’s Lyell collection (a wonderful mixture of correspondence and drawings), Arthur Holmes Geology medals, as well as recent images from The Cockburn Museum, School of GeoSciences. The Cockburn collection contains photographs of past Professors, and historic photos of the department as well as plates of fossilised fish.

These fine examples of Charles Lyell’s draughtsmanship required careful unrolling for photography and had to be photographed in sections and stitched back together in Photoshop, quite a challenge!

We plan to add more images in the coming months, including some geology specimens, but in the meantime we hope you enjoy browsing!

Many thanks to my colleagues Grant Buttars, Gillian McCay, and Scott Renton for all their work to get this collection live.
