New to the Library: The Telegraph Historical Archive

I’m very pleased to let you know that the Library has recently purchased The Telegraph Historical Archive, 1855-2016 from Gale, the fully searchable digital archive of what was once the world’s largest-selling newspaper.

You can access The Telegraph Historical Archive, 1855-2016 via the Databases A-Z list, Newspapers, Magazines and Other News Sources guide and DiscoverEd.

Launched in 1855 as an affordable newspaper (it quickly cut its price to a penny), by 1876 The Telegraph was the largest-selling newspaper in the world, with a circulation of 300,000. The newspaper was directed at a wealthy, educated readership and is commonly associated with traditional Toryism, despite its more “liberal” beginnings. The Telegraph Historical Archive allows you to full-text search across 1 million pages of the newspaper’s backfile from its first issue to the end of 2016, including issues of the Sunday Telegraph from 1961.

You can access The Telegraph Historical Archive, 1855-2016 via the Databases A-Z list, Newspapers, Magazines and Other News Sources guide and DiscoverEd.

You can use our Newspapers, Magazines and Other News Sources guide to find and access the wide variety of UK and overseas newspaper archives the Library has access to digitally, as well as current news sources you can access.

Access is only available to current students and staff at the University of Edinburgh.
