Stage 2: Engaging DoxyPEP

Engaging DoxyPEP is an impact and engagement project that brings together community partners and stakeholders, including clinicians, health outreach workers, third-sector organisations, and community members, to debate and discuss the impact of DoxyPEP on sexual communities in Scotland.

What: This impact and engagement project focusses on engaging Scottish communities in critical and reflective conversations about the acceptability, accessibility, and inclusion of DoxyPEP within existing safer sex and harm reduction practices within sexual communities.

Why: Based on interviews with healthcare professionals, more targeted work with communities is needed to educate key groups about DoxyPEP, antimicrobial resistance, and harm reduction.

How: Using collaborative and peer-led workshops, this project engages key groups across Scotland, including migrants, sex workers, gay and bisexual men, trans masc and trans femme communities, and cisgender women.

Who: The project is convened by an organising committee of community partners, including The Love Tank, Waverley Care, and Terrence Higgins Trust Scotland. Learn more about the organising committee on our About Us page.

This project is funded by the UKRI ESRC Impact Accelerator Account (2025-26).

Stakeholder Event: In October 2025, the organising team held a stakeholder event at the University of Edinburgh. The event brought together clinicians, community organisations, and community members to discuss issues of access, antimicrobial resistance, and priorities for developing new education and outreach programmes for DoxyPEP in Scotland. Learn more about the event discussions via this recent blog post.

Community Workshops: In Spring 2026, the organising team will work with key groups to develop and deliver 5 peer-led workshops exploring the needs and priorities of DoxyPEP use amongst these groups.

Public Showcase: In May 2026, the organising team will host a public showcase to present key insights from the community workshops and to gather ideas about future public health and engagement work for Scottish communities.
