Frida Kahlo & Tina Modotti (1983) and The Last Romantic (1965)

Thursday 29 January, , 17:00-18:00, G.04 Screening Room

We begin our monthly film series with two short films: Frida Kahlo & Tina Modotti (1983) and The Last Romantic (1965)

Frida Kahlo & Tina Modotti (30 mins)

Director: Laura Mulvey and Peter Wollen

This tautly structured documentary sheds light on the work of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo and Italian photographer Tina Modotti, women icons of the Mexican Renaissance. The film not only explores the two women’s artworks, but also includes rare footage of Modotti in the 1920 Hollywood film The Tiger’s Coat.

The Last Romantic (28 mins)

Director: Christian Browning

Daphne du Maurier curates, and Cyril Cusack presents, the poetry of William Butler Yeats in this evocative commemoration of the Irish genius’ centenary.

Mark your calendars! We plan to have a film screened on the last Thursday of every month in the semester (26 February, 26 March, 30 April) all in the Project Room from 16.00 to 18.00.

If you have any suggestions, or would like to introduce a film, please let us know.
