About

This blog is an extension of the Digital Library Futures: The Impact of E-Legal Deposit in the Academic Sector project, which was a two-year (2017-2019) AHRC-funded project based in the school of Art, Media and American Studies at UEA and the Department of Information Studies at the University of Glasgow, in collaboration with colleagues from the Edinburgh Futures Institute at the University of Edinburgh, and the UCL Department of Information Studies. The project team worked with the Bodleian Libraries and Cambridge University Library to investigate the impact of changes to electronic legal deposit legislation upon UK academic deposit libraries and their users.
The Team behind this research is:
- Dr Paul Gooding, Senior Lecturer in Information Studies at the School of Humanities, University of Glasgow
- Professor Melissa Terras, Professor of Digital Cultural Heritage, College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Edinburgh.
- From 2017-2019 the project benefited from the expertise of our Senior Research Associate, Linda Berube, who is now at the Centre for Human-Computer Interaction Design, City University.
The main outputs of the DLF project, so far, are:
- The DLF White Paper: Towards User-Centric Evaluation of UK Non-Print Legal Deposit: A Digital Library Futures White Paper
- The Book: Electronic Legal Deposit: Shaping the library collections of the future.
We aim to answer the following key research question: what is the impact of non-print legal deposit upon academic deposit libraries and their users? In doing so, we hope that we will contribute not only to understanding and developing digital collections for academic deposit libraries, but also to international debates on the future of libraries in the digital age.
