University training, networks and signposting
Training
- Increasing the accessibility of your teaching using learning technology: This SharePoint site contains information on increasing accessibility within your teaching. It takes one hour to work through plus a recommended one hour to build your action plan.
- Training for Staff: The Disability and Learning Support Service offers training for all staff across the university, from enhancing awareness of specific disabilities and learning differences, to general sessions which include the legal context for providing support to students.
- Equality, diversity and inclusion training models for staff: A list of the central training resources that have been put together to support staff with equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Diversifying Toolkit for Staff: A guide created by Information Services to help with the diversifying resources used in teaching.
- Recognising and Counteracting Sexuality Based Microaggressions: A Resource for Academics (PDF, 11 pages): A resource to understand what a microaggression is, identify the most common forms of sexuality-based microaggression, and learn practical ways to counteract microaggressions to create inclusive environments for all students.
Networks
- Disabled staff network: This network is open to all disabled staff and carers and exists primarily as a space for mutual support and a collective voice for staff with disabilities, restrictive health conditions and caring responsibilities.
- Staff Pride network: A network for LGBT+ colleagues and their allies.
Signposting
- Widening Participation Strategy: The university's newly launched Widening Participation Strategy set to last until 2030.
- Gender Equality: The Gender Equality Subcommittee is a thematic committee of the University Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Committee (EDIC). The subcommittee developed the 2021-2024 Gender Equality Action Plan that lays out how principles of gender equality ought to be implemented and embedded across the University.

- EqualBITE – A Recipe Book for Gender Equality in Higher Education: EqualBITE is a ‘recipe book’ which aims to share practical and effective strategies for creating more gender balanced working environments in higher education. The recipes were written by University of Edinburgh staff and students, drawing from their real-life experiences.
