About this site
We use animals in research only when justified on scientific, ethical and legal grounds and when there are no alternatives. All of our work is carried out in accordance with UK law under licences administered by the Home Office.
As part of the licensing process, researchers are required to write a short summary of their proposed research, known as a non-technical summary. These summaries are published on the Home Office website once the licence is approved.
We are using this blog site to publish our own summaries of research currently being carried out at the University of Edinburgh, as part of our commitment to the Concordat on Openness on Animal Research, . These cover similar themes as the non-technical summaries prepared during the Home Office licence application process, but are presented in a different format.
