Lighting design-week8 Shop Lighting Sketch & Factory Visit Zhu ShenXu s2553129

This week, we started designing lighting for retail stores and visited a lighting design studio.

I first proposed a preliminary idea for lighting design this week. As my brand is a Multi-brand store, its products are many and miscellaneous. So I divided retail into two types: one is an open retail space for selling small items, and the other is to build living scenes and sell furniture.

You can see in the floor plan that the small commodity retail area mainly uses track lights to illuminate the products. And use natural light color temperature lighting to reduce the impact on the color of handmade products. The furniture area mainly uses linear lighting and chooses warm light for color temperature, making the atmosphere more gentle.

Based on the teacher’s suggestion, I may consider the material and atmosphere in the future. At the same time, consider the angle of the light and the position of the light source. Because overhead lighting may not be applicable to all scenes.

In the afternoon, we went to visit a lighting factory. During this visit, many of the lessons learned in the classroom were validated, such as the physiological effects of light on the human body, how to measure and evaluate a beam of light, common lighting equipment, and its components.

In addition, we also learned some interesting points. For example, how do they apply circular economy to production. They will collect the production waste and re press it into lampshades or process it into other handicrafts.

We also visited their daylight studio. The staff showed us the effect of fluorescent lamps and how they used tools to measure spectra. The final data and images are presented on the computer screen.

We also visited their process of developing and producing new products. The designer showed us their virtual model and product drawings.

This visit was very helpful. This can provide reference for my future design work, especially in terms of scheme implementation.
