Borders are for Crossing – Red string dev.
Working with locations with tress, I used red wool string to map an outline of a four wall like space. I used four trees like corners and this created an ambiguous like shape, I thought that was interesting as it was really subtle in how it took outlining the flat shape of a bedroom floor into a 3D space with trees as props. This was really hard to photograph as no matter how much red string I used it came out really thinly on camera. I used this area in a more forestry bit and then I recreated this on a bigger scale in a field between four trees.
This second location I think was more impactful in person as it was more obvious that it was a rectangle, and doing the red string at shoulder height gave that illusion of an enclosed space even out in the open. However the problem of seeing the red string from further away or in photos was more prominent and much harder to capture. These photos are the best way I was able to capture it:
