week4 Debate

Designers have not yet come to terms with their complicity in the creation of the conditions of environmental crisis or with their environmental responsibility, nor have they yet reformed their practices accordingly.

Designers design the products but not receipting responsibility of environmental crisis.

Few years ago, MacDonald used to have a box for their Hamburgers that make of polystyrene, so the designer will say well I don’t throw those trash in the rivers or throw it on the street, but people do. However, because they design the product, we can only use one time for our products and then we throw it in the trash, so the designers should be  responsible. And ‘designers have not yet come to terms’ means they don’t understand about this situation.

When architects design a house they would like to think a rich man to buy it who are able to pay amount of money, afford a lot of electricity rather than thinking of a person doesn’t need many bedrooms.

And same issue happens on  apple company, that they want to make their products better and faster so the each iPhone would not last for ten years, so that people need to buy a new iPhone very addition so that they will have a good iPhone which work perfectly, but the new iPhone always comes  out. Fashion industry facing the same problem. Although Green washing /paying lip service were all banded about with companies like H&M saying they were working towards a more sustainable future but the majority of their clothing still offered as buy 1 get 1 free!

in conclusion, nowadays, people can see all the problems such as global warming, pollution, and we all know we should not do that, we have limits, but still focus on economy. When people able to afford, they will start thinking about environment.
