Nothing Leaves The Room. No.2

following my trip and running with the idea of using the things in my bin rather than sending it away as rubbish, i explored a range of 2D studies with the theme of illustrating mountains.
for the below images i used only paper and cardboard packaging (often working on the plain back side)from my recycling bin and brought mediums i already owned like pencils pens and watercolours.

Nothing Leaves The Room. No.1

making paper from the materials in my waste bin.
playing with the idea that nothing would leave my room and how i can recycle it or repurpose it myself, bypassing the waste and official recycling system.
to begin my investigations i soaked some ripped up used tissue .i then added some dark blue watercolour to see how this would take when the product was dry. befor laying out to dry i spit up the batch and drained and re wet a portion and kept it in a separate container. this was to evaluate the amount of glue like stuff that could have been in the original paper and how the rinsing of this would effect the end piece.
something i noticed on my west highland way trip was how much tissue paper you came across that looked like it was dumped there only the day befor. TISSUE PAPER TAKES FOR EVER TO BREAKDOWN. after soaking it in water myself for several days i still found it retaining its shape- when quite frankly i expected it to turn into a fine mush.

to dry the new paper like product i lay my mush on to a plastic covered surface and pressed it out until it was as thin as i thought it could be and still retain some structural integrity.

Solo camp West highland way

to kick off my research this semester and knowing that i wanted my work to be eco focused/ orientated i decided i needed to put myself into a natural and wild landscape.i had the intention to make sketches and experiment within the landscape to the likes of Andy Goldworthy and Richard Long. however this was my first wild camping and hiking trip and i really didn’t give myself enough time to do much in the land besides walking through it from one destination to the next in order to catch my bus home. lesson learnt. when planing my next trip i will defiantly allow myself full days to do so as it was a shame to miss the opportunity to sit and make while in the land. Id also like to take a proper camera with me next time and my phone does the land no justice at all.

for this trip i walked from Crainlarich to Glencoe and wild camped at night.
