Responding to this article about the decline of Britney Spears in the public eye: ‘Framing Britney Spears exposes the contradictions of American womanhood’ by Moira Donegan. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/feb/11/framing-britney-spears-documentary

Britney’s decline was foreshadowed by the extent of her performative femininity. I relate a lot to this fragile upholding of a performance, it feels like it can shatter at any time. There was an expectation of perfection put upon Britney, as it is put upon many women. I am using the ‘free Britney’ hashtag in terms of freeing her from the constraints of performative femininity, and thus willing myself to be freed from such painful ties. Also, I find it funny, and ridiculousness is the only thing that can reliably reboot my motivation, if I steer clear from seriousness.
