The Circular Economy
The circular economy in theory is a great system, but only in theory. The circular economy is essentially flawed – the circular economy’s central framework is that they want to design out waste – but in life there’s always waste. You can only recycle things so many times before they end up in the ocean or some landfill or somewhere not environmentally friendly, therefore the circular economy will never be able to come about completely.
Companies also love to put on a facade that their companies are very ethical and sustainable when they’re actually Greenwashing. Greenwashing is a form of advertising or a marketing spin where companies use green PR to persuade the customer/public that their product is environmentally friendly, unfortunately the biggest users of this are the top companies like Apple.
many top companies are guilty of greenwashing as its how they entice their clientele. Volkswagen admitted to cheating their emissions test by fitting various vehicles with a ‘defect’ device. With big companies such as Apple and Volkswagen committing these acts, which personally should be considered criminal, as that’s only how these will stop. It’s no wonder the circular economy fails – big companies want to appear more sustainable than they actually are. This in turn has massive impacts on the climate and if big companies are trying to cheat their way through and not record their data properly then who knows the actual impact we’ve had on the planet and whether we’ve actually already passed the point of no return.
