Moving on from three relatively static legs of my previous work, I wanted to make a composition with more motion and instability. Something that feels like it could start walking or crawling away at any moment. Adding more legs, using a thinner metal (allowing me to bend middle sections cold since the forge is so small), increasing the reach of the legs all helped breath more life and motion into this work. This work felt more like an insect that previous ones, each of the six legs having individually styled feet and measuring different lengths. It’s like a creepy crawly moving around the space, but what is it moving?

This project was intended to be more like a creature, walking around. Less anthropomorphic and more animalistic. I haven’t made a decision what context I want to put it in yet, or what I want it to become. Maybe a pile of washing that got up and started walking away.
