I have been filming with my friend on Zoom. We met at school, we were both awardees of music colours* and because of this spent several of our formative years in near-daily contact. Both of us wearing a different uniform within not only the institutional rigidity of education, but also the potential rigidity of the instrumental score, our choral categorisations, instrumental numbering, and the repetition of musical warm-ups, tuning, and rehearsals in the extra hour before school each day, to me highlights a divergence that is dually positive and reinforcing of institutional striving.
*Students who are awarded a different uniform to indicate the achievement of academic excellence for a minimum of four years.
(This differentiation via uniform within an institution is an interesting disrupter of affiliation and the notion of normal).
I have not edited or viewed the footage yet, below is a still of myself and Natasha, my dear friend.
