After watching Archie Brennan talking about his weaving residency with Inuit artists, I have become interested in the subject of Inuit art. (See link below for reference)
Notes:
-Inuit art aims to represent the narratives of Inuit every day life and culture.
-Help declaring Craft as a valuable form of art.
-Idea of depicting the everyday, getting inspiration from your surroundings can be transferred to my own work as a response to lockdown’s isolation.
-Tapestry studio founded in Pangnirtung (Canadian artic) by the federal government to soften the trauma of Inuit tribes being forced to resettle.
-Inuit were nomadic, once they settled women adopted weaving as a profitable activity.
