Awards

Undergraduate students will leave the School with a BSc Hons or MInf degree, if they complete their degree satisfactorily. The classification of their degree is based upon the overall average of their Honours years. Student can still fail courses and receive up to 40 credits on aggregate per Honours year to complete their degree. Undergraduate degree classification is outlined in Regulation 55 of the Taught Assessment Regulations.

Students who do not obtain the required credits to receive a BSc Hons or MInf degree may instead receive the BSc Ordinary degree, Certificate of Higher Education or Diploma of Higher Education. These have a required number of credits, including those from a “cognate discipline” (which generally refers to Maths courses but can be confirmed by the Progression Officer or Senior Tutor). The criteria for these awards is outlined in Sections 52-55 of the Undergraduate Degree Programme Regulations.

PGT students will leave the School with a MSc degree, if they complete their degree satisfactorily. The award classification is based upon the overall average of their taught courses and their dissertation mark, and the criteria for merit and distinction is outlined in Regulations 59 and 60 of the Taught Assessment Regulations. A pass mark is outlined in Regulation 57.

Students who do not obtain the required credits to receive a MSc degree may instead receive the Postgraduate Diploma or Postgraduate Certificate. This will either be due to the student not obtaining the necessary progression criteria in the taught element of their degree, or failing the dissertation. The criteria for these awards is outlined in Regulation 57 of the Taught Assessment Regulations.
