Each fortnight bulletin highlights and celebrates the latest prizes awarded to our fellow staff members. Congratulations to all teams involved.

The Residence Life team in the Student Experience Group have been awarded Best Residence Life Initiative in the recent College and University Business Officers (CUBO) awards. The prizes showcase exceptional initiatives and innovations in university campus and commercial services. The award is in recognition of their particular attention to supporting student wellbeing and mental health interventions.

The University has received two awards at the annual Understanding Animal Research Openness Awards.

A project to provide a teaching kit to Schools by the Easter Bush Science Outreach Centre was recognised as valuable public engagement work. The kit was also made available to families at the beginning of the pandemic to aid home schooling.

The University was also given a Leader in Openness Award in recognition of its pioneering work to improve transparency around the use of animals in its research.

Professors Steve Brusatte, from the School of GeoSciences, and Sinéad Farrington, from the School of Physics & Astronomy, have both been awarded a 2021 Blavatnik Award for Young Scientists. As two of three winning laureates they will receive a $100,000 (£76,000) cash prize in recognition of their incredible achievements.

The School of Engineering enjoyed success in two categories of the recent Scottish Green Energy Awards, an annual celebration which recognises outstanding contributions to the renewable energy sector.

The University won a Contribution to Skills Award for its EPSRC and NERC Industrial CDT in Offshore Renewable Energy (IDCORE) programme, directed by Professor David Ingram.

James Ferguson, Research and Development Engineer with the European Marine Energy Centre, won the Young and Inspiring Award for his IDCORE research project on the use of hydrogen generated from renewable energy in Orkney.
